Wheelspin-tastic!
« on: 12 February 2015, 10:08 »
I went for my remap yesterday at badger5 and we were surprised with the results

Pay no attention to the lambda, that's just down down to the location of the lambda sensor - to be moved upstream. The car is used all year around and on a daily basis so we kept the boost low (24psi) until the head is built (if I decide to go that route and 4wd) then we can turn up the wick and see over 2 bars boost.

Fingers crossed for fine weather
Acceleration video would be interesting... Lol
It pulls through 3rd and 4th in the same sort of time it takes to pull through 1st gear, just effortless, power to weight works out at over 460bhp per ton so a bit of a handful in adverse conditions. It feels as though you have all the horses by the reins and trying to steer it (I don't have power steering )

460bhp per ton > Thats more than most Ferrari's and Porsche's get

How much have you spent on it so far to get that power?

Not too sure on a round figure but it's probably about as much as I've spent on the handling bits on the car. It certainly cost a lot less than a Aston Martin One-77 that's for sure! which has the same power to weight. It's plenty enough for day to day use.

I am tempted to go 4wd and build the head then up the boost but it's as I told Rio: I'm itching to start a new project and retire the golf as a grocery getter.

thanks! We were all surprised with the results, base run on wastegate pressure we managed just under 350bhp
in the end we made 491 bhp at 24psi, it responds well to boost. Plenty left in the turbo and egt was surprisingly low, nothing was glowing on the dyno.
