Starting issues
« on: 10 February 2015, 20:10 »
Just been recovered home and am now thawing out with a nice cuppa.   I have the mk3 16v engine in my mk2 with full digi management. It's turning over fine but just dies straight away. I've just jumped it up the drive on the starter motor and it fired up!!. Turned it off now it's not starting again. My code reader points to the immobiliser not allowing engine to start? Question is why would bumping it suddenly cause it to go. Was thinking crank sensor but if this was duff would I be getting a spark. Hope you guys can help as this is my daily to work....

Did you fit all the immobiliser parts in the mk2?

If yes, what's the exact fault code on the ECU and the IMMO controller? Might be that the transponder is dying or the reader coil is on way out.

17978 is the code, has the mk3 engine loom transponder diagnostic socket etc.

Ok, that is the fault in the ECU, check what the immobiliser control unit says.
The ECU does not know why the immo blocks it, just knows it does.

PS:
If you only got a cheap fault code reader that can't go into anything but ECU let me know..... am not too far from Brum and there quite often for work, can get full scan with my full VCDS.

I just have a cheap code reader. Can it be bypassed?  If your in the area anytime soon that would be gr8. I can do mechanical but anything electrical is a no no for me.

Can be bypassed if you get it programmed out of ECU, otherwise not really. Would be a darn bad deterrent for thieves if it could be within seconds.

Am driving up north next few days.... so going round Brum (if you're close to M5, M6 or M42 should be able to stop over quickly), send me a PM where you are and number.

Did you get the small black keytag with immo id and pin code on it when you put engine in the mk2?
