Mk2 vr6 broke down
« on: 10 February 2015, 19:52 »
So the fuel guage on the mk2 vr6 stopped working weeks ago. I ordered a fuel sender unit from a lad breaking a mk2 gti as I was told that they work fine with the vr6 engine? I swapped the parts round and my fuel gauge started working! Took the car to work yesterday and got around 15 miles before I clapped out! The engine juddered and couldn't get any power the died, and won't start back up, although it sounds like it's trying too. Thinking could it be down to the new fuel sender unit, as I thought all it was for was to tell me how much fuel was in the tank?

have you put more petrol in it, might be mis-reading?

Yes it's most definitely got enough petrol in. Is there a pump in the sender unit? Could that be the cause of the issue

A mk2 tank and pump should have a lift pump on the sender unit also.

So it could be the lift pump on the new sender unit?

can take it out and test it right off the car just taking a feed right off the battery. When mine went it made all the right noises but would pump anything.
