Another gearbox question if I may
« on: 10 February 2015, 17:29 »
As you probably are aware, (and probably now pissed off with me :-))  I need a new autobox in my cabby, been ringing about all day, I've entered details in partsbreaker 1stclassparts etc etc, and getting nowhere, this isn't going to put me off though...now another idea has popped in my head..converting to manual...looked about on here, there doesn't seem to be anything, has anyone gone from auto to manual?

What was needed? How long did it take?

This car isn't a daily so I have all the time in the world, I'm also not a kid planning to turn it into fastest car on earth, I'm 31, with a passion for VWs, so I'm very happy to get my hands dirty and also have a very understanding wife, who kinda shares my passion for VWs

Any help would be appriciated

No-one??

I'm assuming if I bought a manual car, all the bits I need would be there...ECUs, cables, etc etc,

I've been having mixed reviews on this, a lot have said its not worth it, but they see it as just a car,  A to B and work and back

I want to put the work in, but need some advice...Haynes Manual is pretty straight forward, but would like to hear other members experiences if I can..

Thanks

Yes I've done it, I converted my misses mk3 cabrio from the horrid 1.8 auto to a 1.9TD manual.

Easy enough if you have the time. Driveshafts were different so they need to be swapped along with the pedalbox ect.

Excellent, I have time, I have tools, all I need then is a doner, ideally I'd like to do VR6, but I'd be happy to do like for like..

I under stand VR6 needs brake and exhaust conversion too, so happy to do this.

Thanks for the reply mate, I may PM you closer to the time, If you don't mind

If you get a donor then you can swap complete axle.
