Adding S2000 to the list. Someone suggested I get one last year, but I wasn't sure. However I've seen some stunning ones on eBay. So on it goes!
It's a mk2. Fill it, drive it, enjoy it.

Will this 'new' car be in addition to your mk2?  Hope you're not getting rid.

What you need is a lovely deep black pearl mk6 gti, I know just the one, available summer this year

I'm undecided on the golf front :\ obviously I want to keep it, but it's spending more time off the road that on, and that if neither practical nor cheap. Without access to a long term garage it also gets expensive to keep it though. As I would need to tax and insure two cars. So if I have any chance of keeping it, and getting a new car, the new one needs to be super bottom end of the budget.

I love your golf! Got a feeling I certainly afford both that and the mk2 though...

Get something cheaper as a daily and keep the mk2

No cheapish garages for rent near you?

A bloke up the road from me is selling a lovely 2008, low mileage 350Z cab. He's just bought a DB9 to replace it.

It's on ebay, I'll see if I can find it.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
