..... to get a bit more indepth then. Basically the bottom end in my golf is rattling, as if the conrod bearings are on the way out, again, but also when the engine is running, and I look down at the crankshaft pully, it almost looks like is spinning in an oval rotation, not circular. Previously when I changed the conrod bearings, I had the head off so changed the piston rings whilst I was at it. When the pistons were out i noticed that in cylinder 1, there was quite a lot of vertical lines on the bore, where as in 2 3 and 4 there were minimal wear. Again on cylinder 1, the bearings were really worn, buton 2 3 and 4 were minimal! Sooooo am going to strip down the bottom end and see what I can find. If anyone has any suggestions as to what would cause this, fill me in!! Also.. The block was re-honed approx 6000 miles ago.. Is it possible that when this was done they just fitted the piston rings for the original bore, and not slightly larger ones to take into account the point 5mm they'd probably lost, as the piston in the bore had slight side to side movement, or would this be concidered normal? The reason for the original g60 crankshaft question is that if it is the crankshaft that is possibly worn, shot, would the g60 fit, as I can get a g60 forged crankshaft off a mate for nothing, if it fits, and use the 2e rods n pistons! Orrrrr if anyone may know what's goin on with my bottom end (no jokes please) I'm all ears!! Thanks for any info or suggestion!!

Honing would not have taken 0.5mm out, maybe 0.05 per side 0.10mm on the diameter and that's a lot.
If the crank is suffering from thrust i.e sideways movment this could wear the rods, bearings, pins and bores
Stick a dti on the pulley shaft and clock for eccentricity and thrust (turn over by hand!!!)
Best bet is to strip off the block and get it down to a machine shop to be measured up.
I would just build a new block up off line and swap it over, as for the G60 crank my guess is that it would fit.
You could offer it up on the bench with your new block....

GGGGGrrrrrrrrrrrr more money. I was in touch with local machine shop and they recon to re-con the bottom end it would be £500 min, and depending how bad it is, could be anything upto £1000 if it needs new rods, pistons ect ect. I was hoping vwspares would get back in touch about the fully recon'd engines they do but no such luck yet. Does any one know of anyone else who do recon vw engines. I'm thinking youd probably get some money knocked off for trading in the old engine, that and the added peace of mind I'd get from knowing there'd be a good engine under the bonnet!

I have a pb bottom end that was in perfect running condition when I took it out. If you can pick it up you can have it for cheap.

Cheers Sgt Lemon but I already have a PB engine (amongst other things) int shed at home. Since the 2.0l conversion I don't really want to take a step backwards. Oddly just been having a look at this on eBay...

Thoughts? Seems a bit too cheap, a bit too good to be true! The down side is anyways is I've been in touch with the geeza, and the modified loom is for a CE2 fusebox, 90 spec, and mines CE1 80 spec if you like! More GGGGGGrrrrrrrrrr!!

Damn that is cheap, I'm in the middle of putting a 20vt in an A1 chassis. Lots of that stuff would have come in handy.
