How would you like to see your 7R featured in a national magazine..? It’s quite simple really...!  :-)

As previously, when we published a Golf 6R special issue, we are looking for a cross-section of owners of 7R (standard or modified) who would like to write – purely first-hand / anecdotal – about their own 7Rs, for a special ‘owners opinions’ section in the forthcoming April issue of Volkswagen Driver magazine.

Purely firsthand and anecdotal, just tell us what car(s) you had before, why you bought the 7R, when and where, what you like/dislike about it, any problems you’ve had, special journeys, fuel consumption, costs, modifications made or plans for it etc. Indeed, write about whatever interests you about the 7R – it’s sure to be of interest to other owners too…

Write as much as you like… It doesn’t need to be perfectly written, as we’ll use our editorial skills on it and we’ll contact you for any additional details or information if required. Ideally, it should be accompanied by a few good quality high resolution ( 300 dpi ) digital photos of your 7R, preferably including one with you posing proudly alongside it…

If you need any further guidelines then e-mail back with your postal address and I'll send a previous example for inspiration
Final copy deadline is last week of February, but sooner is always better if possible – please email me at  Neil.Birkitt@autometrix.co.uk if you’re interested, and please let us have your full postal address so that we can send you a free copy when it is published.

regards

Neil Birkitt
Editor, Volkswagen Driver magazine

Did this for the gti special edition (mk6 section) of the mag last year and it was a great experience, I would recommend to the few R owners on here to give it a go.

It's very nice seeing your car in print and is a lovely momento of a bit of your car owning history, I'll always be glad I did it

Just read that in the R forum   A thread mainly inhabited by the 'what's in it for me' brigade, with the exception of a couple of more sensible voices.

But moving on...

In addition to getting a nice keepsake article about your car, there can be other advantages to doing something of this nature, that may, or may not be beneficial in a wider context.

Just after the mag with my write up came out last summer, I had an interview for a more senior position where I work.  As a big part of the new job is writing stategic documents for public consumption, one of the interview questions was around if I'd ever had a piece of writing published, or put out into the public domain.  At the risk of sounding a complete geek, I decided to use my vw driver mag write up as an example.  I got the job, and in my interview feedback was told that the example I had used had really impressed the interview panel.  Now obviously I got the job on other merits too, but it certainly helped so doing it was fortuitous in more ways than one.  There's always the bigger picture.

That's what was in it for me

You can imagine a Rforum meet being a barrel of laughs

Not going to submit this year as may appear a bit vulgar

My advice is get someone else to read to put you back in line in case you come across as a c0ck

Guilty as charged

But I'm no longer the only golf geek in the office.  A couple of months after I got the job we appointed a new tech support guy.  Turns out he's into the vw thing, having a polo gti, a mk2 golf gti and a split screen campervan, all project cars.  He's also a diesel engine engineer by trade.

Last week he brought in a 2008 copy of Volkswagen Golf+ mag featuring his polo project.  So now I have company
