MK4 1.8t Induction help?
« on: 02 February 2015, 19:20 »
Hi,

I've just bought my first golf 1.8t and to be honest i dont really have too much knowledge when it comes to turbos.
My mate has undone the pipe into the airbox and now its sitting loose, sounds amazing (sound i definitley want) question is, if i run it like this for a week or so, will it f**k my engine?

Thanks in advance,
I can see im going to use this forum loads haha, picture of car will be uploaded tomorrow!

Yeah mean the pipe going from behind the headlight to the airbox? If so no it won't knacker anything but you'll just be dragging hot air into the mix which won't be great for performance

tell your mate he is either stupid or knows nothing  and put the pipe back in to the airbox

Its the pipe that is on the opposing side of the MAF from the airbox (so Pipe - MAF - Airbox) As it stands, my MAF seems to be gone anyway, changed it but its still running terrible on idle and looses complete power while driving - Any ideas on what that could be would be much appreciated also! Before the pipe was taken off I was driving with the MAF unplugged, so its running a richer mix than it should be, using more petrol but giving less power. - Joys of a £250 car!

Nice, so you could have potentially dragged debris through the turbo...
