Has anyone moved from a Mark 6 GTI to a Mark 7 R, and noticed a huge jump in terms of insurance premium?

Are you asking because you have noticed, or asking because you don't know how it will affect you?

Get an insurance quote on a comparison site, like the meerkat site for both cars and see what difference it will make for you in your circumstances.

For most, they'll likely see a reduction in their insurance premium for a change in cars like that - the standard ACC Radar sensor on all MK7 Golfs has brought premiums down for most people as you're less likely to dive up the back of someone (in theory).

Not sure about the R but the MK7 GTI has been the cheapest to insure of all the cars I've owned. Just to give a rough idea, I'm 27, been driving 10 years with 8yrs protected No Claims bonus, clean license living in Lancashire and my annual premium is £365. Must have something to do with the ACC.

My previous car was a Passat CC GT TDI DSG 140 and that cost me £640 which I still didn't think was too bad when I got it at 25yrs old.

MK7 GTI 3-Door DSG, Tornado Red, Discover Nav, Winter Pack, ACC, Keyless Go, Reversing Camera, Service Pack... Ordered 28th Oct... Collected 1st March!

I owned a 09 Mk6 GT (160) previously and moved to a MK7 GTI PP - the insurance for the Mk7 was £30 per year cheaper than the MK6, and the quote I got for a MK7 R (as I was consider one) was actually cheaper than the Mk7 GTI  Not by a great deal but this was for living in a city area with a more than average for car crime.

Yearly cost for me for the GTI PP is £375 with 11yrs NCD. I am happy with this but wish I could get it cheaper but that will never happen unless I move out to the sticks.
7GTI PP DSG - no longer

Thank you so much for the replies, I was asking as I am about to ring my current insurer to enquire what difference I would pay when the changeover takes place. Currently I pay £245 per year, on a Mark 6 GTI with full no claims discount, legal cover and business insurance included which I thought was really good, and the cheapest I could find (tesco if you were wondering).

My worry was due to the performance ability, that insurers would demand a high premium, but it would appear that is not the case. Once the advice on the plate comes through will call them to arrange cover and see what the damage is.

How long before they put your insurance up by £40 if your GTD/GTI/R is equipped with slippery Bridgestones?
