Bluetooth and instrument display question.
« on: 23 January 2015, 17:59 »
My wife has just got a 62 plate Golf estate. Its not a GTi, but anyway.., :)

It has bluetooth phone provision operated via the windscreen wiper stalk buttons and viewed on the MFD in the middle of the dash.

All works very well except I can't figure out a way to toggle the display from the phone back to the normal view of mpg, distance to refuel, av speed etc. Any ideas chaps?

Is there not a mode button or similar on the steering wheel itself??

Does it have the multi function steering wheel? If so pressing the < and > buttons on the right change the mode and should bring up telephone menus. Alternatively press the phone icon on the left as a direct shortcut.

If it doesn't have a multi function steering wheel you'll need to use the buttons at the end of the wiper stalk. Press and hold up or down and it should bring up a menu

Its not got the multi function wheel. I use the rocker switch at the end of the wiper stalk and the push button on the underside of same. Cant find a setting that reverts back to normal multi function display unless I disable bluetooth pairing of phone. There is an option in the bluetooth settings menu that can toggle visibilty. It then says visibility for VW phone for 3 minutes. I would have thought after 3 mins it would default back to normal view but nothing changes.

Its the same with either a blackberry or iphone paired.

Edited to say solved!  it reverts back to the menu by keeping the rocker switch at the end of the wiper stalk down for 10 seconds or so. Can't find it in the handbooks though...

Yep that's what I was eluding to, you need to push and hold the rocker switch buttons down. Agree it isn't very well documented. Most cars with the Highline computer/ Bluetooth tend to have the MFSW so a little surprised yours doesn't. Glad you got it sorted anyway.

Not a high spec car at all its a 1.6 diesel bluemotion estate. Its a company car. My wife had a 62 plate Focus 1.6 estate from new before, 1 level down from a Titanium, but has managed to swap it internally with her company.

She chose Focus 2 years ago on the basis that the fuel consumption (Diesel) was better - it wasn't and was faster - it isn't. The Focus was horrid. Even though the Golf is poverty spec really (plastic steering wheel, lol) it feels twice the car that the nasty blingy tinny Focus was.
