hi all

see images.  Just noticed this about 5 cm-long today.  how do i stop this/make this go away??? (and no, changing the entire seat isn't an option).  Would a glue do it? Any valid ideas welcome, thanks in advance

that won't do it, i don't want to reupholster, just want to fix the small torn ...

It looks like the stitching has burst. Surely you can sew that back up yourself?

I'd put a big temporary stitch in the middle to pull it in and hold it all together whilst you sew along the length of the tear.

Do a tack stitch first with white thread. Easing it together, don't pull hard. Leaving a gap is fine you will close it fully later. Next close it up with yellow/red/green thread with big stitches far from the rip, over tighten them. Remove the white thread. Do a neat stitch with black thread, the fabric at the edge should be loose because of the tension of the big red stitches. Use a fine needle! Remove the yellow/red/green thread.

I'd like to do a pre emptive strike on my seat. Its not damaged anything like that, its not very noticeable, but as the rest of my GTi is pristine, I'd rather the seat be good now and still look good in a year or two when I sell.

Yip thats a needle and thread job! did you not do "Home economics" at school? Decent sized needle matching thread and a thimble, follow Dubbers advice! Even 3 tack stitches sew it up and then you can even get a small set of scissors and remove the tack stitches.

Seems the best approach if you intend to repair the split seam yourself.  Temporary big stitches first to take up the tension, allowing you to carry out finer close stitching edge to edge, without the danger of the thread snapping.
