Flat folding rear seats - silly question
« on: 13 January 2015, 16:57 »
Why don't modern hatchbacks have flat folding rear seats anymore? Years ago the seat base used to flip up behind the front seats and the backs then fold flat.... yet they don't on the last few hatchbacks I've had and definitely don't on my Mk7 GTD.

Is it a safety issue or some euro directive or something?

They'd probably fail if I asked them what the time was,  let alone something more difficult

I think it's because of the Isofix mounts for the child seats.

I think it's because of the Isofix mounts for the child seats.

I don't see why as my Mk1 Leon and the Peugeot 307 we had at the time had Isofix and a seat base that lifted up.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

With the boot floor in the upper position, the rear seats do fold flat?

I suspect its an ease of use thing. As long as the headrests are up a bit, one button and it's flat.

Because it's cheaper to manufacture? That would be my guess.

Does the Polo/Ibiza/Fabia still come with tilting/folding rear seat bases?

The Mk6 was the same and that didn't even have the adjustable boot floor. I'm not sure about the Mk5 which was essentially the same car.
