tyre pressures
« on: 12 January 2015, 12:54 »
Checked my tyre pressures yesterday and on the petrol flap it stated 38psi unloaded. Is that correct or am I missing something?

Seems high to me?

Regards,

Mart

38psi sounds right for 18", though the info on the fuel flap has been known to differ from car to car
I have 19" and my recommended is 41psi min load 44psi max load

Bit more info here or there's other threads if you do a search http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=262606.msg2413392#msg2413392

Cars are pretty heavy so need higher tyre pressures to support their weight. Manufactures also recommend higher pressures as a way of reducing fuel consumption figures.

My GT TDI should be 2.4 bar/35psi according to the sticker, so depending on the spec your cars has, 38psi sounds about right, although I'd set them a smidge lower to improve the ride and cold/wet road grip levels.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
