I would say service history and condition is more important than mileage. Has it got fvsh?

Yeah, full VW service history. Got suede/leather seats. Not seen those before on a GTi.

Maybe Irish origin?  Think that option was available there.

Cars will do huge mileage these days, but people still get put off by that.

When I was looking for my Passat I looked at one with every possible option. It was a lovely car in great condition, but it had done 65,000 miles in 18 months. It wasn't that which put me off as such, it was the fact that by now it would have done over 100,000 miles and by the time I came to sell it even more. That would greatly reduce it's value and leave me with more money to find to change. If the car had been cheap to begin with it might not have mattered, but because of the spec the dealers were expecting a premium price.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Yeah but 65,000 in 18 months is a bit different to 84,000 in 6 years.

My ED35 will be up for sale soon if you're interested. Along with 19"glendales there's everything you could want in a car. Sat nav, dcc front and rear parking aid, full leather, c quartz paint protection etc. beautiful car. Full vwsh and just turned on to the 20,000 mile mark, so low mileage. The next service is due in 100 days and it will be free with the car.

Haha, definitely interested, Richie, but have a feeling it might be a smidge outside my budget! Best of luck though.

A question for the connoisseurs:

On Autotrader there's currently a Golf R (11reg) with 65,000mi...or an ED35 (62reg) with 20,000mi, both for £20k.

Both very well kitted out. Only really the ACC and obvious power difference to separate them. So which do you choose??

Love the ED35 alloys over the R's. Plus it's got a touch more subtlety. But there is the small matter of that 34bhp, the ACC and the 4WD.

Be interested to see how this swings.

ACC for me is a must (bad back) if the cars aren't to far apart go check them out because condition would be my next big question on the list. If you want an r they are priced at about £22k for one with less miles so a bit of bartering might get it down close to the ed 35

This is a tough choice really.  ED35 the rarer choice but the mk6 R produced in relatively low numbers too. 34bhp difference but you could acheive that by mapping the ED35.  4WD - more planted but probably less fun to drive.  1st generation ACC - nice to have if it's on 19" alloys but imo definitely not crucial and even less so with 18s.  Full VWSH on both?

As charlie suggests you really should see them the flesh and drive both.  Condition could be the clincher.
