Radiator Fan on after key in the ignition
« on: 07 January 2015, 21:09 »
Hello all, just another newbie. I've just got my Golf GTI 2002 mk4.

So everything is working fine no issues except.. If I put the key in the ignition so the electrics come on the Radiator Fan comes on for around 5/10 minutes.

Do we think this is a faulty sensor/switch.? Any feedback would be helpful thanks.

Yes something is faulty; the fan shouldn't come on unless either the air con is turned on or the temp gets up too high

I recall there's a fan relay resistor thing under/near the battery, that throws a wobble and causes this and other issues.

I just looked this up. Should help your diagnosis

Looks like a complicated fix, I'd start by locating and swapping out the speed control unit.
