Fuel
« on: 07 January 2015, 13:45 »
Hi All , What fuel mileage should i expect with an unmodified (for now !) 18t year 2000 , with 43k miles . i've only been using it locally , short runs , not good but necessary . getting at best 31 miles , just wondered if that's about right for the use it's getting at the moment . Goes well enough . Also what fuel do they like ? Super unleaded or normal ?
Thanks

If the car has not been remapped and not a 180 version, then 95 will do, but I would personally use shell fuel compared to supermarkets.

MPG  - Deping on the condition of the engine and servincg, its hard to guage what MPG you should get. I would make sure that there is no faults (or codes) with the engine, full service (inc fuel filter) and no air vac leaks. From there, I would expect the car to give you the best mpg it can achieve with normal driving.

my 2 cents.

Hi Thanks for that , I'm not overly bothered about eeking out every last mile , more just to compare with what others are getting and to know things are in the right ball park . I was getting 12/14 round town from my rover V8 so we're doing better than that
Planning on a remap bit later in the year , ( need to put Christmas bit further behind first ) only looking for something mild .

Ps , What spark plugs would i go for , if i do them now , with a view to a mild remap in the future ? I've seen NGK iridium plugs with a heat range of 7 , will they be o'k in a standard engine , remap later ?

I am currently getting 36.4 with a mix of town during workdays and motorway at the weekends from my AUM.

31 sounds about right for all town.

My MPG didn't change after mine was remapped.

However, peak torque went up over 40% from the remap and the car feels like it goes like it was designed to . Rather than being strangled to run on all petrols on all continents.

You will need to run premium fuel if you get a remap. I found the extra cost to be good value for money given the extra fun and driveability the remap gives.

I've just put in NGK BKR7E and i can't say that there are any complaints yet. You can pick up a copper set really cheap too (around 8 quid for 4), or you can pick up an iridium set for around £40

Here's a detailed guide on what you want for each mods.

I'm running around 195bhp on a stage 2 R-tech K03 map (didn't know that the 2001 models had a bigger turbo at the time and just wanted to get it remapped.)

My mods are -
Decat
FMIC
Pipercross filter
forge 007p
G60 /vr6 clutch and flywheel

I wish that i read into it really because i would have upgraded to the k03s before i remapped it.

As for fuel you might find the car runs smoother with the premium unleaded, mine certainly did when I first got it, 3 years later I've not looked back.
