mk4 1.8t AUM - Turbo upgrade, which is best?
« on: 06 January 2015, 15:54 »
so my golf have decided it wants to cost me even more money and dont like its turbo anymore!!! smoking worse than my nan on the over-run, and yes the oil seals have gone in the turbo!!!
so instead of getting my boring ko3 turbo rebuilt im just going to buy a new bigger one!!

im thinking on getting the k04 - 023 (on the leon/tt) but thought id check if this is the best one to get or what other turbos people would recommend? im not a mechanic and dont know everything about 20vt engines so appreciate all advice given!

my cars had all relevant work done to compensate for bigger turbo so fuel pump injectors etc have all been done its just waiting turbo and ive also got a foge front mount intercooler to be fitted when turbo is complete.

thanks!!

Isn't your car running like a bag of sh*t with bigger injectors in? Or has it been mapped to accompany them already?

Also most people say that it's better to go down the hybrid route as the full k04 setup will set you back almost the amount as just buying a bolt on hybrid

Ah I thought you were saying that you had pre prepared for the bigger turbo without remapping.

And the most used hybrids are the k300 and k280 I think.
It uses the same fittings as the k03/s but it's rated to 300 odd bhp

Look them up, it's beach buggy turbo's that sells them.

Remember that you can't go over 300 ft lb of torque unless you upgrade the rods, so keep that in mind when thinking of the cost

Clearly means ko3s just the 'ko3 type turbo'
