Meet you at the crossroad....
« on: 04 January 2015, 17:04 »
Well I'm there with the Golf now, not much else I have to do to it now apart from the parts that are in the shed awaiting some warmer weather (brakes, rear beam and wheels)

I'm trying to decide whether to stick with the K03s and WMI setup that I have or go one stage further with a BBT K03 hybrid...

The main thing stopping me from searching for any more power is the fact it needs a map but as it is but I still love the way it drives and I don't want to lose that especially with most of my driving being lower down due to the rubbish and congested roads over here with no real chance of getting the revs up without being a bit naughty

Cost is also a big factor; I've definitely noticed a healthier bank balance over the last few months with not spending out on bits and pieces, although the car did bite me in the arse yesterday for the tune of £60 for a new battery. It doesn't miss a beat when I take the family down to wherever for a caravan break and it also returned a nice 42mpg on a recent trip to the O2 in London. I've recently flogged my brand new coilovers and given up the idea of going any lower as it's not really practical and to save any moaning from the missus and kids; it's a family wagon after all

I'm also getting/feeling old now, I've been doing this car modifying lark for nearly 19 years and it's wearing a bit thin

Anyways I think the leave it alone argument has won, please feel free to leave your input here

I can't afford to sell it and buy something even though I'd love a Mk5. Plus I'd probably cry at all the money I would have lost if I sold it as is as I don't have anywhere to change all the parts back etc. I'd rather put my spare money into finishing my house renovations off and getting a bit more of the mortgage paid off.

If I was ever in a position to buy a mk5 outright I think I'd bin the missus seicento off and give her the mk4 lol

mk5s are really cheap getting was offered 1 for just over 3k the other day that needed a clutch  but my misses never got on with her last 1 for some reason  and my mk4 is hardly used these days

Wazzer I was in the same situation as you a few years ago, the mk4 was going to be the family car and I was spending money on it "moding it". The wife got annoyed with this and said why don't you just buy a fast car to start with so you don't have to mod it. I now own a modded mk4 golf  and a b5 rs4. I waited 2 months before I had to remap the rs4.

What I'm trying to say is once you got that modifying bug you won't be able to keep any car standard

Very true, I've modded all my cars so far, each time saying "I won't do much to this one"

Barry I've found my perfect Mk5 over here, trouble is it's a little over priced...

that looks clean but with 40k it should be and that's probably why they are trying to get top money for it but don't let mileage put you off and there is some bargains about and not having a certain distance you want to travel helps
