Been quoted £350 all in with some extra work from a local guy. Couple of people at work recommend him and have seen some of his work.

The guy who hit me is obv happy me also...Getting it repaired while I'm away so no real hardship!

I don't know why people are all saying write off??
My £1200 Passat was repaired at the cost of £800 as they didn't want to write it off! (there valuation was much higher than mine or what I could buy one for)

I feel a point was just missed here.

Wasn't Boneybradly saying that in his case (pretty similar if not worse to the OP) insurance did not write it off...

Regardless, positive result for OP!
It's a mk2. Fill it, drive it, enjoy it.

so just because his was repaired means they would have done this 1 too  every case is different and if boneys rear quarter panel was damaged chances are they would have wrote that off too

Everyone is saying it's a write off, when it's the insurer who decides, they don't always make sense when it comes to repair as in my case and it was the rear corner and quarter that was damaged on mine. They still repaired it.

Even you said would be classed as a write off (unless your the claims assessor, how can you know?)

claim assessor has nothing to do with it he just sends a report of cost and damage to insurance company  and did they replace your panels or repair them

He does have a major part in it actually!

I deal with them on average once or twice a month and they have the authority to say yes to a repair or not.

Saying that, you are right in some occasions, sometimes they won't use one and sometimes they even just send a photographer and decide for themselves.
