I have tried all sorts of different settings on my 59plate GTi and it will not fully turn off, even tried different settings that Revo said that turns the full system off, but they didn't work either, it's not a problem on spirited road driving as it hardly ever kicks in, but when on track it's a different story
I've tried turning the steering angle sensor off and god knows what else ? So In a word early cars cannot be fully switched off
This was one of the reasons I have sold mine and moved onto the R
Mk6 Gti Gone but not forgtten
Loving the 7R

Tried it on my 2009 GTi. Keeping the button depressed reverts to 'on' again after 5 seconds.

How boring.

Its a weird way around to do it anyway, i would rather have the stabilty thing off but leave the TC on given the choice.
