Can anyone please give me some advice.
I have a 1.8 Mk2 4+E. The gearbox has failed. I've been lucky enough to get my hands on a box from a 1991 8 valve Mk2 Gti which has only covered a documented 38,000 miles. Sadly that's all that was left of this low mileage rarity worth having. Anyway, I put the box in this evening knowing I would have to overcome some differences with flanges, CV's and driveshafts so here's what I have.
Nice new box with 100 mm drive flanges.
Knackered box with 90 mm drive flanges.
My drive shafts with original inner and outer joints.
I already have a pair of new inner 100 mm cv's in the workshop.
Looking at what I have I know that the Gti drive flanges are deeper so my shafts will be too long.
The 100 mm inner cv's are deeper so the circlip won't fit.
What is my easiest and most cost effective solution which allows me to keep my original outer cv's and use my new 100 mm inners? I assume I need to get my hands on a pair of bare shafts but which ones? Hopefully one of you gents has the answer, I've read all the forums but there are so many solutions...........?
Out of interest my Golf is my pride and joy, rust free, with 1/4 lights, 15" rims, lowered just an inch, has a Weber, 4 branch, K&N, I've gas flowed, ported and matched the head. It does 250 miles a week to work and has done for several years, I average 42 mpg and it can just outrun a Mk 2 Digifant I often see on my commute.
Anyway, this is my first forum post so I'd best shut up and hope for some help!!!!!!!!
