So as you are all aware I went down the Revo Stage 1 route with my GTI and it was great but it seemed that the standard airbox and most definitely the intercooler were incredibly restrictive now that the car was producing near the 300 BHP mark.
Here is the graph with just Revo Stage 1 installed;

As you can see the best run measured 295.5BHP and 312LB FT of torque (on a different run). The dyno at Midland VW has proven time and time again that it is very realistic and if anything understates figures slightly unlike many!
Heat soak was a real issue on back to back dyno runs and this made me decide that the car would certainly benefit from a new intercooler and a new intake. So I decided to upgrade the intake first, a couple of clicks online and a few days later a big parcel arrives for me in the post...

The Volkswagen Racing R600 Intake!

I booked the car in with Chris at Midland VW and headed down last Saturday and as soon as I arrived he got straight to work.

The first thing we did was get the car secured down on the rolling road and did a run with the standard airbox and the bonnet closed to simulate real world driving conditions the best we could. The results were 286BHP and 300LB FT of Torque.
So then it was time to install the R600 intake and see what difference this actually makes!

With this being one of the first R600 Intakes in the country it came with no instructions but it was relatively straight forward keeping most of the fittings that are already on the standard airbox, before long it was starting to take shape;

A few screws later and all was finished;

The installation was actually so fast that the car still hadn't fully cooled down from the earlier stock runs! So we waited around 20 minutes before getting back in and giving it another 3 back to back runs on the dyno, the results were....impressive to say the least, the dark blue line shows the stock intake run, the pink line is the car with the VWR Intake installed and the bonnet closed and the light blue line is with the bonnet open and the VWR intake installed.

Now the car is consistently hitting over 300BHP. One run measured 314.7 which isn't on this graph sadly and even more impressive was the increase of 22 pound foot of torque!
Compare the results with the best stock run we ever had with the bonnet open on Stage 1 and we can see that we have gained 20BHP and 10-11LB FT of torque just from an intake and most importantly a 10 degrees C drop in temperature with the VWR intake! To say I was pleased is an understatement!
Video of the sound from outside;It was a windy day so i'm afraid the video isn't the best of quality but you get the idea.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANeZ_o8Ek8EInside you can barely hear the sound, but under hard throttle with the radio off you can hear a very quiet rush of air. I'll try and capture it and put the video up once I do but i've had no luck with that yet! Sounds nice though, even though it's quiet.
Very impressed with this intake and can certainly recommend it to anyone. It's rated up to 600BHP so will continue to give bigger gains as you move through Stage 2 and beyond. Fantastic service from Chris and the guys at Midland VW as usual
