Newbie with MK7 GTI Gearbox issue
« on: 21 December 2014, 17:24 »
Hi, I'm Wayne

Bought my MK7 Golf GTI Performance back in April. From day one I've experienced (at random) an issue selecting 5th gear, both up from 4th, and down from 6th. It tends to stick, and either be shoved hard, or pulled back and selected again.

Had it in the dealer now several times. Had gearbox stripped and new parts fitted. still didn't help. Even had a new gearbox and clutch fitted (under warranty) but still the problem persists.

Has anyone else had any issues with their Golf? I think it may be the gear linkage, now the gearbox has been changed. Dealer took it out for a 20 mile test drive after new box was fitted, and deemed it `Fixed`. So I think they are reluctant to look at it again. Going to book it in again after Christmas and see what they say.

I had the gear stick ball popped off the stick while driving. Stuck it in after stopping to start changing gears again. It was stupidly easy to resolve. In my car, the clever robots at Wolfsburg didn't properly fix the clip of the ball to the stick. Go to the dealership and tell them to unclip the gear selector and tighten the internal clip that fixes to the stick. Worth a try. I thought that I had a gearbox problem (as I couldn't select gears before I pushed the ball down) but the particular mechanic in my miserable stealership garage is ace in gearbox related problems. He saw it, felt it and fixed it in 2 minutes.

I'll make a note of that, and mention it.

Cheers
