KEY REPLACEMENT / NEED HELP; THANKS!
« on: 18 December 2014, 17:15 »
Hello everyone.. I have an volkswagen golf gti mk4 1.8t.. R32 alike and yesterday i have bought a new keyfob.. ...i went and cut a new key blade for it ..everything does fit, i've moved the chip from the original one to the new one, batteries... and the only thing left was the transponder (immobiliser) ...it broke... i've ordered a new one from ebay but I don't know if I can re program it via vag-com cable..? from what i've read online it will ask me for a SKC (secret key code) which I don't have anymore.. what can I do? :( Thanks

you need someone with vagtacho, with that you can retrieve code from dash and reprogram transponder.

with vcds you will need the code or go to vw - they can also give you a 7 day code, in addition to that you will need some other things (dealer id, day of issue) then you can use vcds.

Thanks alot for your reply.. can I not use vagtacho myself? I have the cable to connect to the car.. and I've also ordered a new transponder ...but I think it needs to be reprogrammed .. and from what i've read online when you're trying to reprogram them they will ask me for a 4 digit pin code (skc) ... hmm? thanks

vagtacho is not an obd2 cable (it is in a way but the software will only work with that particular cable).

you can use it yourself but it's over 100£ iirc

the 4 digit code is what you can recover with vag tacho, then you can teach it new key

you can use vcds if vw give you a pin - but they no longer issue you the 4 pin code but a 7 pin code (to use this you will need to know dealer id, day of generation).

I have found on a couple website where to buy "Vagtacho USB Version V 5.0 VAG Tacho For NEC MCU 24C32 or 24C64" .. I can't take the car anywhere.. I must do this myself to fix it.. If i'll buy that tacho cable and the transponder reader... and also a brand new transponder that would fit for my car model.. do you think I can read the new transponder and program it for my car? (i dont have an pin skc code..) thank you

tacho retrieves the skc from your instrument cluster (with immo3 its also recorded in the engine ecu), put a 0 at the front to make it 5 digits then use that with vagcom to pair the new transponder chip to the immobiliser using the skc.

You would also need a fair bit of cash and some lube
