how much force to dent door?
« on: 09 December 2014, 17:37 »
How much force would it take to dent my mk7 door?  Situation ie this : getting out of the car and slowly and lightly pushing door onto flat brick fall. Door wasnt slammed onto wall just slowly pushed onto it with minimal force by accident. Was edge of the drivers door than made contact. Had a good feel around and look from different angles for any paint damage/dents but cant seem to see any thank god! Can someone please give me some assurance that ice not damaged the car!

I depends where on the door, the edges are much more resistant to damage than the middle..

If you've had a good look and can't see any damage, then there probably isn't any...

Such a difficult question to answer, a bit like asking how long is a piece of string? If enough force is put on the panel it will bend, if you've got away with it this time then i'd use it as an example of what the panel can take, if the edge of the door is touching brick then i'd be more concerned about it scratching as your weight leaves the car and it rises whilst in contact with the brick.

The doors dent extremely easily in my experience! There's a lot of exposed slab sided metal on those doors and I don't think it's particularly resilient to knocks. Unfortunately I've had to employ the services of a PDR guy a couple of times. Once was my own fault where a bit like the OP, I let the door open against a window sill and managed to bend the edge slightly.

Luckily my PDR guy is very good and neither ding is visible now.

Why did you park so close to the wall in the first place?
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
