Haven't really driven the new tyres much yet but they look weird on the car compared with the conti 2s. Mine are conti 5s not conti 5ps and they aren't any noisier than before. Mpg's have been poor but I'm hoping that's just down to them needing scrubbed in properly.

Weird in what way, low profile?  What size are your tyres?  I expect the mpg has been knocked back just because they need wearing in.  You'll get used to the look in time.

So far as I know the Conti 5P and the Conti 5 are the same compound, but the 5p is available in more sizes (rim diameter 18 -23; width 225 -325) as opposed to the Conti 5 (17-20; width 205-275) and the 5p is aimed at 'premium performance cars'.  So good enough for a 'performance' Golf

I think it might be the fact they don't have much rib protection and they look new haha

They appear to have a slightly different size of sidewall to the 2s but it could just be an illusion.

Ordered a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 in 225/40/r18 so look forward to giving you some thoughts on how they compare against the Super Sports.

These are going to be primarily used for play days in the R hence why I am not concerned about the wet weather performance

Excellent!  The only kind of review I take true notice of.

PSC2 tyres are superb in the dry and great for track use. However they are not as good as the PSS in the wet according to the labelling. Be interesting to find out how the PSS and PSC2 compare for ride, noise and wet performance.
