Just had confirmation on the R forum that the Michelin PSS tyres are much quieter than the Conti 5 tyres in 18" size. They also ride much better.

Finally got them and my new wheels installed yesterday, and they are awesome.  Much quieter and softer ride than the conti 5's.  And the grip level looks promising.

Is this enough to convince you to order a set?  Did this person originally have Bridgestones?

His R came with Conti 5 tyres. One of the few.
Am totally convinced now.

That's quite interesting.  My opinion of Conti 5s is they are quite a noisy tyre (albeit on 19s), but the performance is very good, so interesting that they have decided to switch.

Anyway, as this relates to 18s on an R this is hopefully music to your ears, or more literally, music is what you'll finally be able to hear

Just had a read of this thread (you quoted from) on the R Forum, and maybe I'm missing something or have misread things, but it reads to me that the member in question has replaced Conti 5s on 18" Cadiz with Eagle F1s on 19" OZ wheels, not Michelin PSS??   As I say I could well be wrong but am a little confused

You are right. My mistake. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll still go with PSS.

I blame my error on the unfolding Greek drama and eventual tragedy.

Matters of much greater concern at hand.

If you look at all the tyre ratings conti 5s and Michelins are both about 72db. It's only the Dunlop's and maybe the Goodyear's that are 68 and 70 I think. I doubt it makes any difference at all and I'd be happier with grip, wet performance and other categories before noise.
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.

Nightmare here for the Greeks. Banks shut all week. Queues at ATMs. Thankfully, I have plenty of Euros and Pounds in cash, so I won't starve ..... yet! People are very worried. Most I have spoken to want to stay in the Euro.

Back on topic.

Noise:
Dunlop 68dB
Goodyear 70dB
Michelin PSS 71dB
Hankook S1 Evo2 K117 71dB
Conti 5/5P 72dB
Pirelli P Zero 72dB
Bridgestone RE050 (19") 72dB
Bridgestone S001 (18") 73dB

Not good.

Shall we organise a rescue mission to bring you back to Blighty and save you from impending starvation?  The food is terrible but needs must

Or you could look into the luxury yacht suggestion.  There are some amazing deals around, I've heard you can lease one for €1 a week
