Being no size queen, that is the price for 18".

For 235/35 R19 91Y XL from Mytyres:
Not fitted: £198.50
Fitted: £212.50
XL = Extra Load
I am a size queen!  Cheers darlin'
They're not cheap are they   I'll stick with the PSS, because I'm a cheapskate.

So pleased you are an SQ!!! (Not an SQ3 or SQ5 Audi).

Not cheap at all. Great for track use.

PSS will be better in the wet.

The PSC2 Tyres are rated as C for wet grip (PSS are A), Fuel Efficiency E (PSS are F), Noise Emission 71dB (PSS is the same). Also, PSC2 don't seem to have Rim Protection, whereas the PSS have a Rim Protection Ridge.

I've duffed the conti 5s as not one garage could confirm what was going to turn up. I asked for the E and A rated contis but everyone I spoke to said I can only get c and b rated. I'm now going for Michelin ps3s from Costco at 85 quid each seeing as though MH (Matt) keeps raving about them

Here you go. Australian Review of the Conti 5P, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2, Bridgestone RE050 etc on a Merc A45 AMG with 235/35 R19 tyres.
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2015-Australian-Motor-235-35-R19-Tyre-Test.htm

1st Conti 5P -  As expected
2nd Michelin PSC2 - Bad in the wet, great in the dry
3rd Bridgestone RE050 - Shock and horror!

Just a plain and simple SQ, and only where wheels are concerned

And no Audi 4x4 monstrosity for me thank you very much!

You've ruined my final final summary

So, now the final, final, final summary:

I'm getting Michelin PSS 19" - in 4 or 5 months

Asker is getting Michelin PSS 18" in 1 or 2 months

Mcmaddy is getting Michelin PS3's 18" very soon.

Wigit - has confused me and no idea now.

I thought MH was going for Michelin PSS?

On a FWD Mk7 GTI the Michelin PS3 came 5th. The Conti 5 tyres are No.1 followed by the Pirelli. In 2015 Evo Review.

According to the 2015 Auto Express Review (17" tyres on a Golf), the PS3 is the noisiest tyre, ranks at No.3. The Conti 5 is again No.1 and is 4th regarding noise.

If one does not want the PSS in 18" for whatever reason, and one cannot source the A/E Conti 5 tyres, then best to go for Pirelli P Zero (A/E rated, 72dB) or Goodyear Eagle F1 Assy 2 (A/C rated, 70dB).

18" Conti 5 A/E, 72dB tyres are available from Blackcircles at £103.62 fitted or £82.02 mail order.

I thought MH was going for Michelin PSS?

Spending 90% of my miles plodding along the A19 between 50 and 80mph in straight lines to my new job at the moment, it's all been pretty mundane - not feeling the need to change yet (not been scared by the Bridgestone's lack of grip yet), the 4WD of the R hasn't allowed any initial traction issues when I put my foot down from a standstill (my main gripe with them on my GTD) and i've just passed 1000 miles today, so early days - although the longer I have them on the less likely someone is going to want to buy them. On this commute, the R feels like it is going to waste - I could fling the GTD around a bit on my old commute on varied roads. I need a new job that puts my commute on winding country roads!

A small part of me believes I would be having more fun in a MK3 TT 184TDI with a DTUK box on, hammering it and never seeing less than 45mpg rather than driving the R quite sensibly with the odd spurt of speed - the R seems to really leave the competition behind above 80mph, but I value my license too much to be taking real advantage of that fact! Below 80mph, unless you're absolutely wringing it's neck to 6k revs, it doesn't feel as quick as it is (the MK7 refinement overshadowing thrills again most likely).

One thing I have realised this week is that Tesco Momentum 99 is the best fuel the car has sampled yet for smoothness and mpg (and 5p/L cheaper than Shell V-Power also).

Matt:

Don't think the Mk7 is refined. The R for me is noisy mainly due to the Bridgestones. Now our BMW is truly refined on all road surfaces which the R is not. But I do love my R as it has oodles of that fun factor that is when I can access it. I can see why it is pointless you upgrading the tyres to the PSS.

As for Tesco, I have only been once into one and we don't have one nearby. Have 4 Shell Petrol Stations within a 1-2 mile radius. Am very happy with Shell.

Pity your commute to work is so tedious. It also seems that the new job is not lighting your fire either. Time for a change?

Are you happy with your decision to change to the R as you don't sound it in recent posts ?
