Hi all,

Hopefully collecting my car in the next couple of weeks. Im assuming I will have bridgestones on by reading some of the posts however as someone who doesn't have a clue is it that obvious the difference tyres like Eagle F1's or PS3's make?

I may have insulted a few people by writing this haha but I'm just curious.

Cheers

Collect 28th May 2015

Dont worry about the tyres, not the best but not had any problems myself, just enjoy the car and change them for something else when they wear out

Just an update from my original question. I thought I had found a good value source to replace the Dunlops GT Maxx 19's via National tyres online for £135 apiece. However, after placing and paying for the order they then emailed me to say they couldn't actually get the tyres which was very frustrating. Shame as the web site looks good and the local fitter to me seems ok, but in these days of live stock/order functionality its not acceptable in my view to take payment for goods they could never actually supply..... So back to first step and I ended up at Bracknell Tyres for a pair of Good Year F1 asymmetric 2's for £140 apiece. So far I'm very pleased with the tyres, road noise and grip similar to the Dunlops and they seem to have a slightly better lip to protect the alloys from kerbing. Be interesting to see if they can match the Dunlops 17k miles. Only residual irritant is that the tyre pressure monitoring system keeps going off despite me double checking the pressures and resetting the system.......

Had my Mk7 Gti and not had any issues with the Bridgestones. They don't inspire much confidence, but I will obviously be replacing them with some Goodyear Eagle F1's when they wear out!

I've been running Potenzas on the MX5 as summer tyres for three years without any problems. That said, only 17 inch, different profile, and on a lighter car.

Slightly worried that the Bridgestones appear to be crap on the GTI, as I am a bit of a tyre freak.

Only ordered on Friday so perhaps I should speak to the dealer and see if I can put in a special order lol

You can ask but they can't do anything. Stop panicking about the bridgestones, while they aren't the best tyre around they certainly aren't the worst.

I experienced a little slide around a wet corner today on the Bridgestone RE050 Shod R. It wasn't a quick corner, going around a tightish bend at around 25mph on the industrial estate by my new place of work - it was like tentatively walking bare footed on a wet glass floor when it started to go, I was shocked at how little speed it took. The Haldex 4WD can take care of the traction, but can't help general grip.

For a top tier brand of tyre i've never had any other tyre come close to Bridgestone's lack of grip - Dunlop SP01, Pirelli P7, Conti 3, Michelin PS3 have all been miles ahead in comparison. You can be sure VW/Audi don't have Bridgestones on when they conduct their economy and performance tests to determine their official figures. Fair dos on a 1.2TSI or 1.6TDI Golf SE, but when you're paying upwards of £25k for a car, you expect some rubber that will not hinder the car's potential performance, even if it ended up costing an extra tenner a corner.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

To be fair Matt the roads were very greasy yesterday due to the rain and even my traction control light flickered a few times  I don't think my front tyres will last the summer as they are virtually on the tread marker on the outside but still a couple of mm's to go on the inside.

I agree they are pants. Really shocked me the way they lost grip on a dry roundabout (Park Royal, North Circular). Rear tyres lost grip and I was not going that fast, though faster than usual..

Will have to sort this out in a month or so when I am back in London. Am in Athens for a month+ enjoying my home, the sun and excellent food.
