Soft tyres are grippy and quiet, but don’t last long.

Fred Flintstone round granite tyres last for ages, have nowt in the way of grip and are noisy as hell!

On the Michelin front, for the road I would stick with PS3s not the SuperSports. Again... the SuperSports have plenty of grip but you need to get them warm... I've driven a GT3RS with SuperSports on track and they were difficult for the first couple of laps... after that fantastic, even in damp conditions...

The PS3s seem harder to come by in 19", for some reason my local Costco can't get them in (even though they claim to be able to order in any Michelin tyre), but readily stock the 18" variant as an off the shelf item.

Here we go on the old tyres thing again. Tyres are quite a personal choice, but the consensus seems to be that Bridgestones are not an ideal match for the Mk7 GTI/GTD. I noticed the difference when I changed my Mk6 GTD for a Mk7 GTD, i found the Bridgestones were pretty good on the Mk6, but was shocked at the level of tramping on the Mk7. After a bit of research I decided to replace all 4 tyres (the fronts were down to the marker) and fitted Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas. Am  I pleased with them? over the moon! Now that they are nicely scrubbed they are so much quieter than the Bridgestones on all but the worst surfaces. The steering feels more positive and the grip is great in wet and dry conditions. Most importantly, I no longer have to feather the throttle from standstill. I can now accelerate like a loon with out any loss of traction. Vreds my be something of a left field choice, but I can recommend them - they look great as well! Just need to see how long the last now.

I'm with you dervy :) Love these tyres, and can be had for around 74 quid a pop delivered.

I've put them on my fronts recently and the car's grip is fantastic in dry and wet (plus running a DTUK which they seem to eat up.) Dead quiet too like you say.

I can get the car to tramp in 1st gear, but will be interesting to see how it is once I replace the rears.

I've had 10,000 out of them in the past on a diesel civic - I only got 10,000 out of my Conti sport 2's on the GTD, so I'll be happy with anywhere near to 10,000 at the price.

New Michelin PS3 fitted Saturday and having been out in a deluge yesterday realised how much compensating in driving was having to do with the Bridgestones.

Alot more confidence in general wet driving and only managed to get the wheels to spin by literally putting everything down off a start - The Bridgestones used to spin even on relatively damp and mild pull offs and tramp like a mad thing on a serious floor.

Bridgestones were not really a problem in dry though you could still get wheels to spin on a decent get away so imagine that would be also near removed to as an issue given yesterdays wet experience.

All the people on other forums who have migrated to the Supersports from F1s are not complaining

Some interesting comments on the Supersports when cold, i have run these all winter on the R and it has been ok in temps to -1, any colder i always used the Polo

Where the Supersports score is the grip in the wet, I sprint the R on road tyres and did a sprint in the rain with the Supersports and was 10s clear of the track day specials, this was without esp and the R was amazingly controllable and it was actually embarrassing, what was interesting was when pushing hard they preferred full wet to a greasy surface and it was a great exercise learning about the car and the grip

Long journey yesterday on the new Michelin PS3 in dry and wet and they definitely made a difference in other ways also making you realise how much was accepting the wearing Bridgestone.

Tyre noise greatly reduced, steering rock solid and assured and so cruising along motorway at 2.5k revs with DCC set to comfort made a long journey feel effortless for the car and so me too.

Not saying its the Michelin PS3 alone that will do this but decent new rubber definitely makes a difference when previous set were Bridgestone and on the wane.

So anyone hanging on to get last few miles out of original set, do self a favour and cut losses and go get rebooted.
