sunroof seal rubber
« on: 05 December 2014, 19:50 »
bought some of this from Woolies trim & have had it on the car for over 6 months

i thought i would wait a bit of time to see how it worked , water tight & a very good price compared to some Evil bay advertised stuff
found them very helpful to deal with they sent me some 266 / 265a / 113 to size against the standard stuff
the 113 was the nearest  at £4:50 a meter

Good post that, just watching some sunroof seal on evil bay. At £58 I thought that wasn't too bad, but if this stuff is as good as you make it sound, 2m for a tenner maybe worth a pop. Just wondering how well it sits and if it still looks the part. I've had a look and it doesn't look too bad, apart from not having the felt, but nothing's perfect!

Well. I'll take a top at it and get some before/after pics up. Like I say, making the old girl watertight is on my todo list.

Right lads, just did this and here are some points.

1) the product from Wollies is great, part 113 as mentioned is a great fit, while it isn't felt covere it still does not look out of place and forms a great deal

2) BUY 3 METRES! Don't do what I did a go "hmm looks like 2m" you will be about 12" short.

3) Here is a quick how to on getting the old seal off.
      A) Open the roof about an inch
      B) Pull down on the sunroof headlining, it will pop down
      C) Slide the headliner back into the roof
      D) You will see 2 screws holding brackets left and right, front and back. Undo um' all.
      E) From the outside of the car slide the sunroof out towards the front of the car.
      F) Take your sunroof somewhere warm (as long as your car is secure) and place it on an old carpet or towel
      G) Undo the 7 screws on the black trim and remove
      H) Remove old trim
      I) Refitting is the reversal of removal, as they say

I'll get some pics up soon, although I'll have to do it again once I have bought the correct length (I plugged the 12" Hole with some of the old seal

As promised, pics.

So, this is how the seal was, as you can see on the right, it has collapsed in and I might as well not have a seal at all.

And the new one.

And the reason you buy 3 metres rather than 2... Doher!

The pukka stuff is still available from the dealers - but £72. Nevertheless just bought one and cheaper than VWH. Part no. 321 877 209A
