isv test?

ive searched but cant quite find what im after.

ive heard you can test it to see if its working? do you just put the ignition on, without the engine running and should be able to hear it?

The ISV is a electric motor so you should hear it spinning or vibrate when the ignition is switched on.

Ah ABS, so proper ISV and not just throttle actuator...

you can measure continuity / resistance and see if this is reasonable (few ohms)
if the resistance is very very low or very high (kilo ohms) then the electrical part is faulty
if the resistance is ok you can use a 9V battery and see if you can hear it move when you connect it, if yes then it should be ok....
next test is to see if air goes through when it's engaged (get soft silicone hose of appropriate diameter and blow through with it connected/disconnected to 9v battery)... obviously should allow air through with battery on, otherwise not...
you can also check with torch if its dirty.... can be soaked with brake cleaner



instead of 9V battery you should also be able to run a diagnostic with vcds

The basic test is with ignition on, you should feel the ISV vibrating.

To check for air leaks, with the engine running squeeze the pipe coming form the air filter box to the ISV, it should cut the engine out, if it keeps running the engine has an air leak so its letting un-metered air into the engine.

Hopefully its just a bit gummed up, take the ISV off & give it a clean with carb cleaner or petrol.

with the engine off and ignition on i can feel it vibrating, and when the engine is running i can cut it out when squeezing the pipe from the isv to the airbox , so looks like all is well.
