Worse.

5 cyl pros:

Noise

Broader spread of power

5 cyl cons:

Weight

economy and emissions (at manufacturer published figures and laboratory test level; maybe not in the real world so much, but this has a big bearing on things at factory level where they're under pressure to produce low emissions vehicles & make the mk7 lighter than a mk6)

Price increase

it'd probably only come with an auto box

I'd sacrifice the weight for noise and the power delivery and i don't think it would be that much heavier as a 2008 R32 with a V6 was 1510kg and a mk7 R is 1475kg,  not much lighter considering that's on the MQB platform. Yes the MK7 is a fat heavy pig, that's why it doesn't feel that much quicker than GTI PP.
GTI manual PP, now sold  :-(

Define better?

The extra weight in comparison to the whole car may not be significant; however, its placement would likely have a greater effect than you think.

As for the extra power... power isn't everything... and I think I'd rather sacrifice a little power for better weight distribution.

The noise would likely be more tuneful with the 5cyl v the 4cyl but given that they are both turbocharged... they won't be that noisy anyway.

I had a 2.2 5 cyl Audi Coupe quattro back in the day and it did sound great when revved but didn't generate much torque at the bottom end and was somewhat thirsty... Also, the engine was placed quite a long way forward which made it prone to being numb on turn-in and understeer...

If it was 5cyl id buy one, It's not so I won't.
So you loose a smidgen of ultimate grip due to nose weight. I don't drive at 10 10ths but I do listen to this engine. That feel good warmth of a 5cyl worble Is worth the compromise. So many memories of standing in forests as a child.
A new RS3 saloon could be tempting.
Mk6 GTI  &  Mk1 GTI
