Recommend me a wax!
« on: 26 November 2014, 13:12 »
Here is a section I rarely venture into. So hopefully you guys can help me out.

I drive a mk2 in Capri Green. The paintwork is average (J-reg, so 23 years old). Not stunning, not aweful. I am saving for a full respray. Anyway, I am looking for a wax to keep it looking as good as it can, and protect it the best I can.

Reading online there are loads of waxes, but I dont know enough about what does what, if you know hat I mean.

I havnt really set myself a budget. I dont want to spend crazy money, but probably mid-market.

Hoping to just get some opinions/advise here, Cheers
It's a mk2. Fill it, drive it, enjoy it.

So many to choose from and it depends what longevity you are looking for.  Imo you can't go far wrong with a Dodo Juice carnauba based or hybrid wax, or Collinite, especially 915 or 845.  Maybe DJ Rainforest Rub which is good for any colour, it just happens to be green.   These are all mid price waxes.

Thanks for the post, pleased you mentioned DoDo Juice as I had been recommended it by a pal. Also pleased it came from you because I drool every time I see your sig!

Think I will give rainforest rub a go. I've neglected wax for too long. It will just be good to get a bit of protection on!

Haha, cheers mate

Am I right in thinking Capri green is a mid green as opposed to dark green?  Only ask because Dodo Juice wax for dark cars is fantastic (blue velvet (hard), purple haze (soft) and could also be good on green, but I think if I were you I'd give rainforest a try.

Its one of those annoying greens which cahnges a fair amount based on thge lighting. But yeah I would say its mid. Not as dark as oak green, but not light like lime.

Crap pics, but hopefully you can see the colour

^^

That's very nice and looks immaculate

I really like that green and you can see how it changes colour in those photos.  As well as the rainforest rub, I reckon the DJ waxes for darker cars would work really well on it, enhancing the depth.

I had a read of your project thread and saw the fire damage suffered.  You've done a fantastic job to get her looking like this, clearly a well loved car.

She really is an absolute beauty.  Now treat her to a nice wax

Thanks guys!
These pics are pre-fire

Hopefully after I have finished all the work it still looks as good, though I think those pics are flattering (or I'm harsh on it)

Once it's back on all four wheels and through it's MOT it will be getting a serious clean (and wax!) I'll get some waxed pics up in a couple if week (hopefully I will be back behind the wheel by then) :)
