Lights are set to come on early (leaving home function I think its called) when unlocking but this did not happen....
'Early' is not referring to coming home lights - its an adjustment of the sensitivity of the light meter which will bring the Auto lights on sooner (ie with more light) than the default 'normal' setting.

 yes i realised my mistake there when I checked my settings again this morning. My sensitivity is set to Medium and leaving home set to 15s to stay on but the lights didn't come on to start with but was fine this morning and when checking again last night. Will see if it occurs again...

I do notice sometimes a high pitched buzzing noise from the front lights when they first come on, assume this is normal and they are not going to pop

Only inasmuch as the mk.7 has xenon lights as standard in GTI and GTD trim (so no adjustment wheel for headlight range).
