Mk2 Seat Still Moving Going Round Corners!
« on: 13 September 2005, 20:12 »
Renewed the broken seat clip on my driver's seat, only to discover that it still moves going round corners. While at the scrappie, I had a look at another seat to see if I could detach the runner part to replace mine, but it looks like the bottom is a one piece............Any ideas on how to solve this problem???

are you sure it hasn't come off? they can be a cow like that. my passenger seat is like that, clips in, pops off when you slide it back in. did you just do the one or both?

Hi Joe - haven't checked to be honest, will have a look in the morning. I only replaced one side as it only lifts on one side - perhaps I should have done both..............Back to GSF I reckon

Got some new clips today from GSF, but ended up doing a "bodge". The clips that were in the seat were fine, no movement. The problem is the metal seat piece that sits in the runner on the right hand side of the seat, right next to the outer clip. This has a lot of play in it, which can't be normal. Couldn't see a way of tightening it, or removing it to renew,so resorted to electrical tape................

Basically wound tape round the offending area to reduce the free play - seems to have improved it...........

Just have to wait for the seat to detach itself now when I go round a corner too fast.............

I had the same problem with my Drivers seat on my MK2.  I went to my local VW Dealer and bought all the plastic guides for a few quid. Ended up only fitting the center guide that was completely missing.  Mines a 5 door and the seat doesn't move now!!

Mine has new plastic clips both sides - the bit that is moving is the metal part going into the clip. There seems to be no way of tightening it up. I might swap the front seats round so the missus can get seasick! lol
