Where to put the jack?
« on: 19 November 2014, 19:49 »
No, not the jack daniels... The jack for when im changing the tires!

Had an Mk6 before, and that was quite easy - the undercarriage of my MK7 GTI looks abit different though, and im raising the car with a jack, and want a good "raising point"? This English is killing me!

I do not have access to a real lift, and I do not want to use the factory "scissor-lift"

So if anyone has some experience from this and maybe some pictures, because I did not find any decent pics on google even, I would appreaciate it. Both front and rear.

Have a good one, cheers!

Good Evening,

I recently rotated my tyres front to back and struggled to find the front jacking point - ended up choosing the wrong spot, luckily as I was raising the jack it didn't feel right, so I stopped before doing any damage.

In the end I used the VW scissor jack at the front and my trolley jack at the back. The car felt secure enough for the short time it was in the air.

I see. I personally do not like that jack though. When I used it the first and last time on my MK6, when I was on the way down with the jack on the rear right hand side, the jack snapped and got crooked, and it cut a long mark in my sideskirt.

Also a friend of mine who has got an 2011 Audi A3 S-Line used his last year, it snapped and collapsed so he had to replace the entire sideskirt.

Will use the jacking points provided in the above threads, going to look at a new Bacho T1300 jack tomorrow, a bit pricy but we have 5 cars in our family so I guess its a good investment.

I still can't work out where the front jack goes either. Rear I've got down to a tee.
Current - MK7 Golf GTI - Tornado Red, 5 Door, DSG, Performance Pack, Dynamic Chasis Control, Panoramic Sunroof, Discover Navigation, Dynaudio.

On Order - MK7 Golf R - Pearlescent Black, 3 Door, DSG, Vienna Leather, Discover Nav Pro, Rear View Camera, High Beam Assist, Keyless Entry, Dynaudio (Tech Pack)

All gone.

Now;

MK7 Golf R - Lapiz Blue, 5 Door, DSG, Carbon Nappa, Discover Nav Pro.

I use the same place and wooden block as on my old MK5 GTi.
No damage, no expensive rubber blocks required
