I presume that you are saying your SORN has expired and you are not able to book an MOT next week?

Can you not just re-SORN it on line, then tax it once it has been MOT'd? Surely that would be the simplest thing to do to keep the DVLA happy.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

SORNing my car took me literally 2 mins online.

Now that it is all electronic, it makes it really easy to fine you. It's supposed to be an instant 80quid fine for any lapse, although they don't seem to stick to it.
It's a mk2. Fill it, drive it, enjoy it.

You need to SORN it online, then MOT it, then apply for tax if it passes.

If you don't SORN it now, you will ill get an automatic £80 fine, and have to pay for road tax.

Do it NOW.

While I agree with the advise here, don't fret over the fine, I was 2 days late with mine and my fine hasn't arrived yet, although it could still be in the post.

Still, SORN it now, like I say, takes 2 mins online

Be careful.. The 14 days grace period that you hear about is nonsense.  There was a 5 day period to cover postal of the tax disc, but that was 5 days from application to delivery, now they're doing everything online with Tax, Mot and Insurance you're more likely to get f**ked sooner than you expect it.

Technically, and legally you are in liable from 00:01 on the day after your tax expires. The delay in getting your notification is down to human administration.  Not so much now its automated.  Your car will be flagged up and the £80 issued automatically.

With the ease of applying for Tax and SORN online, you'll have no excuse.

My old car was untaxed and not SORNed for 6 weeks before i got a fine, but as said, with the new system your liable to get the fine sent out withing a day or two or the tax running out.
