Significant changes in Irish specs & prices
« on: 30 October 2014, 12:25 »
Hi guys,
I know there's not many from Ireland on here, but thought some of you would be interested in this development anyway.

VW Ireland have recently made huge changes here to specs and prices for both the GTI and R.

Up to now, the GTI started at approx €34.5k and the standard spec was miserable compared to UK (off the top of my head we didn't get xenons, 18's, ADC, parking sensors, climate control - all were options). All of these are now standard and the price has gone up a couple of K. It starts at around €36.5 - 37k now.

Most interesting though is the R. The R started at appox €53k  VW have now knocked over 9 grand off the starting price, it now starts at around €43.5k! I think the R spec is a little better than it is for you too. The 19's are standard here.

So now we have the GTI PP and the R very closely priced together, there's "only" around €4k between them on list price...

Ive noticed this also, Joe

This means that the increase in price is very close to what customers such as you and me and others on here spent on upgrading wheels and lights but have been denied standard climate control, PDC, ADC.

VWI Ireland defended themselves last year claiming the cars were not over priced and that the reason for the woeful spec was to keep the cost down and make the cars more attainable for more people.

So if they can reduce the R by 10,000 euro and increase the price of the others, albeit with added spec, what does that tell you....

I notice the GTD is missing from the configurator but then that was always more expensive than the PP GTI..! Possibly dropped for the GTE..?? Ive only seen about 4 GTD's other than mine in the last year so maybe not selling...

Mk7 GTD. Xenons, 18", Climate Control, Keyless, Alarm, ( all optional in Ireland...! ) Dynaudio, DCC,

I have the price list here Fabio and the GTD is still there according to what I see. It's priced roughly similar to the GTI PP. Starting at €38.5k and rising to €41.5k for the 5 door DSG.

Hmmmm. That is very interesting. I have called my vw dealer and he is going to give me a figure to upgrade to a 151 vanilla spec R. MY GTi is a high spec and a year old with 15km done.  He said it's closer to 10k€ that has been slashed from the price. It's too tempting not to consider it at least. Saying that he will probably want a ridiculous figure to upgrade to the R. I'm guessing around the 12-13k€ mark ??!! What do you guys think ?

At least that yes. He will offer you somewhere between 28-32k for your GTI, so you'll need to put at least ~12k with your car. I'm gonna ask my dealer too for the craic... my GTI is also a bit over a year old with similar kms as you.

Well I was a bit sick as I bought a 142 gti in July and paid I guess 4k for climate , 18s, Xenons and front and rear sensors and adc all now standard
Not sure what that means but did I just flush 4k down the toilet ?
Just glad I didn't by an R in July and be down 10k
By the way they have thrown in 3 years free servicing and 1.9% pcp
Even in the height of the recession they didn't offer deals like this
It's certainly a good time to purchase now
I feel I should have waited until January

Just ordered mine {Another GTD!} dealer said 6 R's ordered in November, but 19 GTI's.... nearly all on PCP plans.
Had to stick with the oil burner due to very high millage I do but was very tempted. 3K more than my GTD for an R!
only saving grace was the spec, compared to my Mk6 GTD, and roughly the same price I paid 4 years ago, it has Nav, Xenons, Light assist, Climatic, Heated screen, reversing camera, Parking sensors etc. The Mk6 really held its price too, around 55% after 4 years.
The good times must be back with that may GTI's being sold, very rare to see anything plated after 2008 on the roads!

2016 R!
2016 GTI PP Ordered and cancelled
2015 3DR GTD
2011 3DR GTD
2008 3DR 2.0TDI GT Sport

For reference a 3dr 132 Gti with 23k kms is worth 28-29.5k depending on where you shop.

Yeah I was quoted around that for mine too Dave. I just enquiried for the craic, I've no intention of changing for a while.

Are you considering trading up?

Hi Joe

I took advantage of the November offers and ordered a 5dr PP manual in CSG with winter pack and the free technology and service/assist packs.

I would have thought your car was worth more than mine as your spec is high.

Happy New Year

Dave
