ok so its running now, thanks for all the input guys.

she's now topped up on oil, ran some redex through the tank, sprayed a little easy start into the TB, and WD40 on electrical connections and dizzy, she fired up, ran a little rough at first with a bad misfire under full throttle, but after she warmed up properly and ever since she's been fine.

I'm guessing that I'm gonna need to buy some new parts, start with a new dizzy?
I'd rather push my Golf than drive a FORD

I have the same engine in my passat b4....i.changed everything mentioned in this post by others and no go. It took my very skilled mechanically inclined friend wh removed the distributor as it was not aligned properly even though getting spark to plugs....so check.the distributor timing and timing of cambelt....my friend said it was a mystery as to how.the timing was off...who knows? these old cars surprise you....

After all that work the car still cut out at 70mph for a few.seconds on the motorway....scary stuff...dropped revs and then sprang back to life...did this for many months and then stopped....after that it wouldn't start again ....that disappeared after changing the engine oil....go figure...

Hi all,

I know this is an old thread but just wondering If I remove throttle body from an AGG will it need vag-com reset?

I'd recommend to run the TB alignment procedure in VCDS for all 2.0 engines in the mk3 with exception of engine code 2E.

Is it essential though? I don't have access to VCDS and could do without the expense right now. Also, must one depressurize the fuel system before removing TB?

AGG has a Simos control unit.... it does not teach itself. TBA with tester or VCDS needs to be done so it runs smooth.

TBA with tester

TBA?

Ive searched threads for people with diagnostics and the guys near me havent been here for over a year.

how about cleaning in situ then? with carb cleaner i.e. ecotek, through air intake.

of course, sorry bit of a blonde moment there  :embarrassed:

very helpful, thanks. But no one near me unfortunately and cant risk driving her too far obviously.

I'm not gonna lie i think i'm going to risk it. At least I'll know its clean and can rule out the TB being the problem. I can always Vagcom it later down the line if need be.
