eBay special ISV?
« on: 13 October 2014, 14:28 »
I am sick of my car dropping the revs. I have tried everything that the internet has ever suggested to resolve it (other than replacing the ISV). So I am now at the stage where I am considering just replacing it. I have cleaned it, twice. It buzzes with the electrics on. But the car drops the revs when coming to a stop (dropping the clutch).

So I could buy the 300 quid one from VWHeritage. I dont really have 300 quid to spend on it. Or I could spend 60 quid for an ebay one.

You you risk it? Same part number.

What have you tried and most importantly what engine?

I have NEVER had an ISV go wrong and i've been through a lot of golfs. They rarely go wrong.

I think I have seen you post this before. Which, along with cost, is why I left replacing the ISV until last. This is not a comprehensive list, I can't remember everything I have done to try and solve this. But:

Checked and replaced all vac lines and blanks.
Cleaned the TB/inlet
Replaced the air take ducting (old one was split)
Cleaned the ISV completely
Replaced the rubber bung on the rocker cover
Followed rubjonny's set up guide
Check that the idle switch clicks and is operational
Blue temp sensor

EDIT: Sorry, '91 8v

I have a bad memory

The throttle switches working but are the wires to it broken? The only time ive had an isv not work was when there was no power to it and Rubjonny rescued me with that one.

I guess you could replace the isv with the cheaper 2nd hand one. I wouldn't buy new.

I know your not daft but you have adjusted the idle right? Just a fraction anti clockwise on the screw and can stop from stalling.

Craig sent me one, so I will try that.

You have just reminded me though! My idle screw doesnt adjust! It just spins. I had completly forgotten that. Odd though, because when I bought it the idle was fine, and if the screw cant be adjusted, then it cant have changed?

Needs to screw in and out properly. Should have an o ring around it too.

I think thats the real problem :)

Ive picked up some mk2's where the owners have cheated the idle screw and adjusted the screw on the throttle body closed position. Keeping it a fraction open...not the way to go.

Yeah the working ISV made no difference. Shy of a new TB, anything I can do to rectify the idle screw not moving?

On another note, also wondering where this o-ring lives...
