Need some advice please Mk4 gti brakes!!
« on: 06 October 2014, 16:58 »
Hey guys, so the other day I fitted a full set of MTEC drilled and grooved discs and some mintex pads, I brought the car for a drive and the pedal feels very spongy and the car takes a mile to stop!!!! I didn't disconnect any lines or anything so I don't know?? Also the ABS and Traction lights came on and are staying on!! I have driven the car about 10 miles as I thought maybe they need to bed in or something but its not improving at all!! I'm no mechanic by any means but I have a good idea..  Any ideas what could be going on??

You check to see if the brake fluid lid had popped off? When you rewind the calipers the fluid gets pushed back into the bottle and can  overflow.

I had the lid off the bottle during the whole job, (and all night) as I started late in the evening and finished the next morning.. I was thinking maybe leaving it open over night had something to do with it?? but then would this be connected the abs and traction light??

You shouldn't do that, just push in job done.

Sounds like you have disturbed an ABS sensor.

Pads may well need bedding in a tad more. Did you open any bleed nipples?

Where are you located?

OK but I've probably changed in excess of 200 sets of discs and pads and I haven't ever had an ABS light come on and I have never undone a bleed nipple to do the job.
