Time for a new car! (GTD again) Help needed!
« on: 02 October 2014, 19:28 »
Hi Guys,

So after the whole thing about my car not being the greatest (being a lease car, creaky, painted panels etc) I'm looking at a new one, funny part is, it's red 3dr and dsg, with the same options as my car! which sounds great, but with 40k on the clock and 1 owner and FVWSH (14.5k).

Only thing is it's at a dealership 120 miles away and won't they find it odd I'm PX'ing for the same car? What should I say?

My main question is this time I'm going to have a AA specialist look at the car, and a bodyshop look over the car before I buy it and a long test drive on crappy roads, and the whole lease thing, I don't want it if it was leased, any way of finding out? I will be keeping this car for 5-6 years and will be spending alot of money on mapping/wheels/body/interior and want it to be great!

I've given the garage an email, about Service/condition along with PX price for mine

Sell your current one elsewhere to avoid the awkward conversation. Webuyanycar are ok these days and generally offer the same or more as you'd get in PX.

If the new one is from a VW main dealer its probably a safe enough buy without the AA inspection. It will have gone through approved used checks as part of the 'DasWeltAuto' scheme and they should provide paperwork for this.

Good luck

Does Webuyanycar take cars with mods or is it the same as when you go into the dealers, they don't want it with all our trinkets on it!

I've just looked on webuyany car and i got a valuation on a 12 plate GTD back in March £16,275. The mielage must have been about 18k. I've just updated it the now with 27k on the clock and came back as £14,960. Is this a fair price?

That GTD sold, there's nothing else around, I might just get rid of the GTD. I might be looking at a Merc C220 Coupe 125 edition.

2.1 Twin turbo engine with 168bhp and 400nm of torque
I've heard some being Stage 2 pushing 250bhp and 550nm+!!!

they come with as standard

Satnav 10gb hdd
folding mirrors
bluetooth
parking sensors front back
Led tails
Xenons with leds
heated seats
climate control
electric seats
presafe fatigue something
variable suspension so detects rough roads etc and softens dampers
and a super smooth transmission thats very reliable..
some have reversing cameras

What gets me, these cars are 11/12 plates going for the same money as a GTI and GTD they all have more kit and a more tuneable engine

How does the steering compare to the Golf gtd/gti? bearing in mind it's also rear drive, the SE saloon I drove had NO steering feel, rubbish.

I have a dsg and the slowness of the transmission is slightly annoying but in traffic it's butter smooth so it can be slightly forgiven.

Should I consider a c220 as an option?

Don't forget you will nearly always get a better part ex valuation than a out right sale price from the likes of webuyanycar.com because the whole idea is as a cash buyer after you've got rid of your car to them, you should be able to negotiate  money off the car your buying. But agreed you'll have to go some to get nearly £2k off the asking price.

You could try wewantanycar.com for a better price, similar deal to webuyanycar.com just not as well known.

No experience of the merc just purely my own opinion and that is Merc's are like Audi's for me they only work when they are big cars. E class upwards for Mercedes and A6 upwards for Audi.

Good luck with your search.

Dealers love when you part ex. Your car and typically £2500 and it hits the forecourt. They have lots of room to come down to what they need to get on every car they turn over, possibly £1500. Thats why webuyanycar.com thrives. Is webuyanycar not connected to say companies like Carcraft or motorpoint ?

Sell yours private and you'll get the most money for it.

Go to your VW dealer and tell them what you're after. They will find a car for u trust me!
