Noise and start issue
« on: 26 September 2014, 21:23 »
For the past 2 days I have noticed that when I turn my keys to step 1 in the ignition I can hear a noise coming from the rear of the car. It's a short 1 sec low pitched noise which sounds like it's near the boot. Occasionally the car won't start on turning to step 2 and just turns over. Two more attempts and its fine (possibly glow plug issue but I need this checking out). Maybe this noise has always been there but just never heard it till now. One other question to put out there but would tyre tread affect the pull of a turbo. I noticed that just recently in 2nd the revs will go high but the boost I'm getting does not feel how it used too. Maybe I have just gotten used to the feeling but I'm thinking it's either standard turbo lag, boost leak or tyre tread. I say tread because I noticed my NSF is low in the middle, when I feel the turbo kicking in its at that point that wheel spins and the abs/eps kicks in to compensate for the spin this losing any hope in pull. 3rd 4th 5th and 6th seem fine

Just an update. Drove this morning and upon entering 2nd gear the car juddered, spluttered, and died on me. Several attempts to start drained the battery. Had to join the AA there and then to get me to a garage. Will know the outcome tomorrow. Man from the AA said he thinks my car as with most tdi' of its age have issues with the wiring loom running through the rocker cover where oil is. There is a kit to resolve this apparently and should need to change injectors at the same time. AA reckon will cost approx £1400-£1700. Bloke in garage said to leave it with him to diagnose as it could be water in fuel, faulty starter but will know tomorrow. My only gripe in this scenario is that if its gonna cost around the £1500 mark I may as well pay it as what else would I get for that money. Cars have done my head in today

A tad late but what was the problem?

Noise from boot...lift pump/main fuel pump. Normal but they do make a loud noise if they struggle to suck up fuel from the tank.
