1988 GTi Digifant starting problem-Urgent please!

Hello,
Just bought a 88 8v GTi. I had to remove the locking wheel nuts to replace brake discs by welding a nut onto them as it didn't come with a removal nut.

I disconnected the battery, put a bit spot weld on nut and removed it. When I went to start it the oil warning light was flashing, it ran lumpy then cut out and won't restart.

Any advice gratefully appreciated. The welder earth was on the nut.

I would check the wiring you disconnected for breakage or corrosion.

It was only the battery positive lead. Was running fine before I spot welded locking nuts off.

could just be a coincidence that another fault occurred. stranger things have happened . is your oil level ok?

As said I would be looking for any broken or brittle wires disturbed when you removed the battery.

Check the earth that attaches just behind the battery tray..mine looked but crumbled as soon as I started to undo it. Also could try wiggling the hall sender wires on the dizzy, mine was broken further up in the loom.

You wont have damaged anything by welding the locking nuts. As mentioned you've probably knocked something when disconnecting the battery.
