Standard Alloys
« on: 22 September 2014, 10:01 »
Anyone else have problems with scratches on the standard Nogaro alloys?
I've only washed my alloys a couple of times and each time I have been extremely careful yet the black paint is really scratched. On first look it looks ok but looking at them from certain angles and you see how bad they are.

The black sections on my Passats wheels where quite badly scratched when I bought it at a year old. I spent quite some time polishing them by hand when I took them off for last winter. I sealed them with some spray on Supagard wheel sealer that I had kicking about, and touch wood, they have been fine since refitting them in the spring. I wash they with a mix of shampoo and snow foam using a MF mitt, and that's it.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Surface scratches on the black bits from very early days, pretty much unavoidable, even with a good sealant.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Yes, same with mine and every black gloss painted alloy I've ever seen. If the weather's OK this weekend, I'm going to give them a going over with AF Tripple with a foam pad, which last time I did it, reduced the surface scratches by 90%.

Not a lot you can do to avoid it really. It's like the paintwork of a DBP (deep black pearl) Golf. Looks great when new, but no matter how carefully you wash it, over time it will have surface scratches, cobwebbing and hazing. Nothing a good polish won't put right though.

Cheers all.
I've been very gentle with them yet they look terrible in the sun. I can't even blame the dealer as I asked them not to wash it on pick up.
