EVO tyre test 2014
« on: 17 September 2014, 13:42 »
I've just read the EVO tyre test fro 2014. They used a MkVII Golf GTI as the test car.
Out of the 10 tyres that were tested the Bridgestone S001 came last overall.
Not really a shock :D

Wow, well done VW :)

Just had a google, and this looks to be the final scores? CS5's on top.

I was lucky and got CS3's on my GTD, so assume would rate pretty well also.

1 Continental   95.8
2 Pirelli           93.6
3 Goodyear   92.1
4 Yokohama   90.5
5 Michelin           89.8
6 Vredestein   89.2
7 Toyo      88.2
8 Hankook           87.8
9 Dunlop           87.2
10 Bridgestone   85.2

I'd be amazed if you got conti 3's on your gtd. They supply conti 2's from the factory. What pirellis and what Goodyear's did they test?
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.

Anyone know if the mk7 was fitted with Bridgestone's at launch or have they become standard fit since?

Price apart, I don't understand why they fit them in preference to the Conti's

If anyone is needing new tyres soon, the Michelin PS3s are now only £108 a corner fully fitted, and they have a promo on for £30 cashback (or was it a Costco voucher?) on a pair, effectively making them £93 each fully fitted.

GTI-J: They use a variety of tyres, mainly ones that are obsolete from a retail point of view. The variety is so they're not putting all their eggs in one basket, only having 1 supplier. 3 or 4 different suppliers ensures they're always assured of a reliable supply.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
MK7 R 5 door, manual, Lapiz Blue, Prets.

i'd go for the Michelin Super Sports over the PS3s if you are serious about your tyres, i now see why the premium boys put them on oem, A wet rating and in the dry these are in a different league and had no drop off when getting hammered today, cleaned up in 50 miles and just great on a road

The conti 5s are indeed an excellent tyre.

I replaced the horrible Bridgestones with them on my mk6. The difference was amazing.
Grip, noise and fuel economy were noticeably better.

I'll be doing the same soon on my mk7 even though they've only done 16k, fronts at 3mm but I've just got to get the Contis.
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.
