My local dealership group, Pulman, have 3 GTDs on offer at the moment, 63 plate 5 door manual is £24k,DSG same price, 5 door DSG is £24.5k. No mention of options, so i'd expect mine to be up for £24k right now if they had it available for sale, £21k should be achievable as a p/x if the dealership isn't wanting to be too greedy. If I wanted to hang on until the next plate, i'd probably expect £1500 less (£200 a month depreciation for 5 months after a plate + an extra £500 off at plate change month after year 1 right through to year 3 is about right).
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I did wonder whether they were banging these out any quicker than the first lot of GTIs and GTDs. 1st March delivery would probably suit me, if I was being really sensible it would be next Sept, but I would still have to order one before I know how far i'll have to travel for my next job, following redundancy next June. I think i'll be looking to get a 24 hour test drive and take it on my commute. It might be the case that on a commute of 12 miles like mine, a cold start commute on an R might not be miles away from a cold start commute in a GTD where 9 of my 12 miles are done before the oil is up to 90C. 32mpg on my commute in an R vs an actual 45mpg currently in my GTD would be a win for me.

Do I want to jump ship to an S3, just for a nicer (probably the best interior in its class) interior and have to pay for all the equipment that is standard on the Golf? I totted up everything we get and added it to an S3 - the equipment amounts to around £2700, just for things like ACC, upgrading the Xenons to adaptive, parking sensors, rain and light sensors, interior lighting (ambient), folding mirrors, privacy glass etc.

What colour? If I do make the change, I do like the look of Lapiz Blue (loved the Rising Blue of my Scirocco), but wonder whether every R out there will be that colour. Pearl black looks great but is a bugger for swirls and keeping clean, Or Carbon Grey - love the colour but grey seems to be second only to white in how many there are on the roads. It will probably be between Carbon and Lapiz. Tried to phone my dealer this morning, but he's going to be in late and transferred to another branch which is usually less able to give the best deals.

That's my point. I'm on a PCP so I get the interst they roll up back if settled early. But in terms of lead times if I want to switch in September may be that I order in March and see what's on offer then but the the GTD DEpreciats as monkeyhanger has set out. I can order via a broker and utilise a private loan at aore favourable rate I.e 2.9%. Meaning anything around about what I am paying I'm happy with question is PP GTI in TR or R and when do I order.

R not available in carbon grey.

Is that for sure, or is it assumed because it isn't on the configurator? In the early days of GTI/GTD ordering it wasn't on for them either, but the dealer could get on the system and place an order.

Do Rs come with blue ambient lighting in the same way as GTIs have red on the internal door strips?

R's are definitely not available as standard in Carbon Grey. Blue ambient lighting on the door sills and door strips. Dial needles are also blue rather than red

They do a limestone grey which I have just seen and looks nice as the sun is setting. Dunno about broad daylight.

Reflex silver looks superb imo, so much so i wish i'd gone for it myself! If your concerned about swirls and marks i'd give Lapiz a miss if i were you, it looks great when you put some SERIOUS effort in but it needs to be treated with kid gloves unfortunately.

This is a great website for colour choices:
