r32 conversion into mk2.

Just a thought guys.. I am really tempted to do an r32 conversion into my mk2 gti 8v.

How much would it cost- Engine/gearbox/all the other parts.

You haven't given us a lot to go on. Do you intend to write a cheque for £20k and have it built for you, or are you going to put it together yourself?

If it's a 4wd build then you basically need an entire r32 to butcher it into a mk2 with loads of fabrication. Would be cheaper I would have thought to get a 4wd golf to start as the floor pan and fuel tank ect is already set up for a prop and rear diff. Then fabricate just an r32 engine and running gear maybe. It's not gunna be easy or cheap, even if you can do all the work yourself you could get a hefty parts bill rather quickly.

It's quite a common conversion (well, it's not unheard if anyway)... You don't have to go 4wd.

Unless you can find a write off/MOT failure or whatever, you need to budget 5k for a donor car, the rest of which can be broken for parts.

If you are going to pay someone for you to do it for you, don't. Go out and buy a mk7.

Well the r32 is similar to a vr6. Vr6 being 180bhp as standard and r32 240bhp or around there. The cost difference in the engines is huge though. Both very heavy engines being 6 pot and both meant to ruin any handling in the car due to weight over the wheels.

If you want 6 pot I would say go down the vr6 turbo route which is common and I think even comes with an off the shelf spacer plate and mani kit, will be more power and still cheaper than an r32.

Then again you can still get way more power with a 1.8t conversion which will cost a fraction of the price and not be so heavy. If you have really deep pockets apparently an r32 turbo is a bolt on 500bhp but will be £10k in parts alone.

In standard form the R32 makes 240PS? A BAM 1.8T will make 270-280PS with just a remap. Getting close to that figure tuning a R32 will cost £££.
