You need to sell your GTIs for this - seriously
« on: 13 September 2014, 16:44 »
Was an active member here about 5 years ago and even a mod for a few weeks... Anyhow, just thought I'd stop by cos' I have just driven the most entertaining car of my life, and that includes the Jaguar XKR I had after I sold my Mk6 GTI.

A future classic - the Audi S1 / Polo R. Jesus, the engine is an absolute PEACH!! The acceleration is phenomenal and, being AWD, traction is just not an issue. The S1 I drove is expensive and, IMHO, pretty damn ugly, but I hope to see the near-identical Polo R at the Paris motor show in a couple of weeks and will definitely be ordering one when it becomes available. It is what the Golf GTI should be.

I thought the Golf R was understated in the looks department but that takes it to another level

That's exactly what I like about it. A real wolf in sheep's clothing. And I'll probably get white, so it looks like a 75hp TDI

Welcome back strainger.
S1 had me tempted, it is why I didn't go and see andrew@dtuk when he had one just incase I got too tempted.
I do really like the current polo shape far more than the S1
The polo is a similar length to the original mk1 GTI unlike the huge mk6 GTI

Is it definitely coming to the UK in RHD?

And will it have a DSG option?

New Polo GTI too.

Now with a manual by the looks of the interior pics

Has the makings of a proper hot supermini, much like the mk1/2

What pi**es me off is that for me, a GTI has always and should always be associated with the Golf. Now they're rolling it out into the Polo, what's next Beetle GTI???

Unfortunately it might have become a mass marketing tool.

Fully agree with you.  And the same with the R, even the r-line is confuses the issue.  There should only be one GTI and one R.  They should stick with a focussed identity and stop diluting the heritage of the brand.

Will it handle though, as in the past this has not exactly been a strong point...

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.
